I’ve now completed 10,000 km with my Toyota Hyryder E NeoDrive, powered by a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, inline DOHC engine that produces 102 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 136.8 Nm of torque @ 4400 rpm. Here’s my honest long-term ownership experience.
🚗 Mileage & Efficiency
Out of the total 10,000 km, around 4,000 km were driven on highways, where I consistently achieved a mileage of 18–20 km/l, which I consider excellent. The remaining 6,000 km were city drives, including bumper-to-bumper traffic as well as smooth stretches. Even in urban conditions, the car returned a commendable 13–14.5 km/l, which is impressive — especially when compared to other 1.5L petrol SUVs like the Hyundai Creta.
🛋️ Comfort & Ride Quality
Comfort is where the Toyota Hyryder truly shines. The ride is stable, never bouncy. While the suspension leans slightly toward the firmer side, it handles Indian road conditions effectively. The seats are a standout feature — they provide excellent lumbar support and keep you snugly in place, making long drives fatigue-free.
Whether it’s a city commute or a highway road trip, the Hyryder remains a very comfortable and practical SUV.
🌀 Handling, Gearbox & Engine Performance
The handling is well-balanced, and the steering provides good feedback, always giving you a clear sense of control over the car’s direction. In city traffic, the engine feels peppy and overtakes are easy. On highways, however, you may need to downshift if you’re cruising below 2000 rpm to get that extra push.
The gear shifts are smooth and precise, with no clunky feel. The clutch is light, making it easy to drive in heavy traffic without fatigue.
💡 Features & Interior Experience
The headlight setup is projector-based, which I later upgraded to LED for better visibility — and I’m happy to report it performs brilliantly even without fog lamps.
The interior design of the cabin is modern and stylish, and it doesn’t feel outdated even today. However, there are a few things I’d like to point out.
⚠️ Things That Could Be Better
• Plastic Quality: The door trim plastics feel slightly on the lighter side. That said, it’s a trade-off I can live with considering the overall package.
• Rear Indicators: Even in the top-end V variant, the rear indicators come with halogen bulbs. I upgraded mine with aftermarket matrix LED indicators, which completed the full-LED look.
🛠️ Service Experience
One of the key reasons I chose Toyota over Maruti Suzuki is the after-sales service experience, and so far, it hasn’t disappointed me.
My car has undergone two scheduled services — both routine check-ups — and the experience was smooth and professional at the Toyota service center.
✅ Final Verdict
The Toyota Hyryder E NeoDrive has proven to be a reliable, comfortable, and fuel-efficient SUV. It handles city and highway drives with ease, offers a great seating experience, and Toyota’s service quality only adds to the peace of mind.
If you’re looking for a petrol SUV that delivers on comfort, practicality, and real-world efficiency, the Hyryder is definitely worth considering.
